JUDGES
Mr. DeMarse is originally from Michigan relocating to California in 1984. He competed and performed for several years throughout North America and in Europe. Mr. DeMarse is a Fellow member of the BATD, and became a member of the Scottish Official Board’s World-Wide Judging Panel in 2003. Since becoming an adjudicator, he has enjoyed judging and teaching in the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, and Scotland.
Mr. DeMarse teaches children and adults at the San Jose School of Highland Dancing in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been a member of FUSTA/ScotDance USA’s Board of Directors since 2009. In July of this year, he was elected President of the BOD. We are honored to have him as our adjudicator and instructor for the 2019 Kerr Festival.
Doug Frobese – Duncanville, Texas
Doug Frobese began playing bagpipes at age 9 at St. Thomas Episcopal School in Houston, Texas. In 1991, Doug joined the Hamilton (now St. Thomas Alumni) Pipe Band and served as pipe major from 1997 to 2000. During this time, the band won the World Championships in Grade 3A, and were 3rd the following year when they boved up to Grade 2. This past August, St. Thomas Alumni became Grade 2 World Champions at the World Pipe Band Championship. In addition to playing with St. Thomas Alumni, Doug also plays for Scottish highland dancing competitions throughout the US and with Celtic folk bands “The Rogues” and “Scotland Rising”. Doug has also been selected to be one of the dance piper for the United States National Championships in 2020. When not piping, Doug is a lawyer in Dallas.
